Coach Greg Moss

If the difference between an athlete and a champion is a winning mindset, Gregory V. Moss is a champion of mental toughness. As a member and All-Conference performer for Minnesota’s University of Moorhead track team, Moss won a conference title in the 100-yard dash and had personal bests of 9.6 and 21.4 in the 220-yard dash. That was after being told he might never compete again.

According to legendary Hall of Fame coach Ron Masanz:

“Gregory was one of the most mentally tough athletes that I have coached. He sustained a major injury his junior year in track, and doctors said he was done. He came back his senior year and posted a successful season. He truly believes in the power of the mind.”

Moss is the founder of Champions Quest Sports Academy in Los Alamitos, California and has also been heavily involved in the Los Alamitos High School girls’ volleyball team. With the help of his training, the team won its first conference title, the California regional title and the state qualifier match. The Los Alamitos team went on to win the next three conference titles, three regional titles and three state titles, and have been nationally ranked as high as No. 3 in the entire country!

Coach Moss was also involved in the physical and mental training of the top-ranked TCA volleyball club. He also assisted Coach Mike Walley in taking his Lakewood High School girls’ volleyball team to its first conference title and subsequent state championship.

Moss showcases his ability to achieve and inspire in others this concept of mind over matter with his successful Footsteps of a Champion series, which includes an e-book, motivational CD and training DVD. The program is based off of the mental training regime he developed for his own daughter Rachael, who went on to become one of the top volleyball players in the nation. Rachael Moss received a multitude of accolades while playing for Duke University, including ACC and Regional Freshman of the Year, ESPN First Team All Academics, AVCA All American and Duke’s Female Senior Athlete Of The Year. After a brief stint playing professional volleyball in Spain, she will attend Harvard Law School this fall.

Moss and his wife now live in North Carolina, where the coach is involved with training many young athletes, as well as with local volleyball clubs. In the future he hopes to continue with the Footsteps series and establish an elite sports training facility.

“I believe that the mind is the control center toward success in life. But the mental training is just as important as the skills and the physical training.” – Coach Moss

Coach Moss’ program has been featured on television and in newspaper and magazine articles throughout the country.
